Police in Roxas town discovered four chainsaws while serving a search warrant for illegal possession of a firearm in Barangay Tagumpay at 9:15 a.m. on October 23.
The Roxas Municipal Police Station (MPS) implemented a search warrant issued by Judge Annaleah Y. Tiongson Mendoza of Branch 164, Regional Trial Court, against a man identified only as alias Ronald, 55, a caretaker residing in Barangay Tagumpay.
The operation led to the recovery of a Norinco caliber 9mm pistol with two magazines loaded with live ammunition, two empty shells, one holster, one pistol hard case, and two ammunition cases.
These items were seized for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
While police were about to leave after the search, they reportedly saw in plain view four chainsaws, two orange and white baby chainsaws and one orange and white STHL chainsaw.
The items were not covered by the warrant but were documented, photographed, and taken for verification.
Authorities are coordinating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) to determine possible violations of Republic Act 9175 or the Chainsaw Act of 2002.
All recovered evidence was brought to the Roxas Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
