A road rage incident turned into a shooting along Marcos Highway in Antipolo on Saturday afternoon, March 30, leaving three men wounded and sparking a police chase that led to the suspect’s arrest.
The shooting happened around 5 p.m. in front of Café Sinauna in Sitio Calumpang, Barangay San Jose, after a heated altercation broke out between the suspect and the victims.
Police said the gunman, identified only as “Kenneth,” 28, a businessman, allegedly drew a firearm during the confrontation and shot the victims before fleeing the scene in a black Toyota Fortuner.
The victims were identified as “Peter,” 52, also a businessman, who was shot in the head; “Patrick,” 22, a college student, who was hit in the right arm; and “Davis,” 29, who took a bullet in the chest while trying to break up the fight.
All three were rushed to Cabading Hospital and are undergoing treatment.
A hot pursuit operation was immediately launched by the Antipolo police, in coordination with nearby units enforcing Oplan Cobweb. Officers intercepted the suspect at a checkpoint in Masinag, Barangay Mayamot, and took him into custody without further incident.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Lopez Manongdo, acting chief of the Antipolo City Police Station, praised the swift response of his personnel.
“Thanks to the quick coordination of our teams, we were able to prevent further harm and arrest the suspect,” Manongdo said.
“We are now conducting a full investigation and we urge any witnesses to come forward,” he added.
The incident quickly went viral on social media after videos taken by bystanders were uploaded online. In the footage, a man wearing shorts and a white t-shirt is seen punching another individual. In response, a man wearing a helmet retaliates, followed by several others.
As the man in white tries to run back to his vehicle, he is chased by the person he had punched. At that point, he draws a gun from the front of his body and opens fire, shooting the man in the helmet and two other individuals.
Based on the video, a woman was also hit. The suspect is seen lifting her after the shooting. Witnesses claimed she was accidentally shot by him.
