Severe Tropical Storm Podul is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either Sunday night or early Monday, the state weather bureau said.
As of 3 a.m., Podul was located 1,875 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 135 kph. It was moving west at 15 kph. The storm is forecast to remain in the northeastern part of PAR from Monday to Tuesday and could make landfall in Taiwan by Wednesday before exiting PAR.
“Posible po na itong si Severe Tropical Storm Podul ay pumasok ng Philippine Area of Responsibility mamayang gabi o bukas ng madaling araw,” said weather specialist Obet Badrina.
“Base po sa ating mga latest update din at latest na data, medyo maliit ‘yung chance na magkaroon ito ng direktang epekto sa ating bansa,” Badrina added.
In Palawan, residents can expect isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures reaching 31 degrees Celsius in Puerto Princesa and the Kalayaan Islands.
Most of Visayas and Mindanao will experience similar conditions, especially in the afternoon until evening.
The southwest monsoon continues to affect the western section of Luzon, bringing cloudy skies and rain over the Ilocos Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.
Fair weather with possible isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms is expected in most parts of the country.
“Kaya in general po makikita pa rin natin ‘yung mga generally fair weather sa malaking bahagi ng bansa sa mga susunod na araw,” Badrina said.
No gale warnings are in effect, and seas will be slight to moderate, but small boats are still advised to take precautions during thunderstorms.
Weather outlook:
– Sunday: Cloudy skies with rain in Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands; fair weather elsewhere with isolated thunderstorms.
– Monday: Generally fair weather across the country despite Podul’s entry into PAR.
– Tuesday-Wednesday: Cloudy skies with rain in western Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan; Podul exits PAR Wednesday night.
– Thursday: Southwest monsoon to bring rain over Southern Luzon, most of Visayas, and Mindanao; fair to hot weather in northern and central Luzon with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
