POC pleased with IP games turnout

Organizers of the recently concluded indigenous peoples (IP) games held in Puerto Princesa City have declared it a success, with the number of participating tribal athletes exceeding their expectation.

The 2-day event held at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex, Puerto Princesa City from July 26- 27 drew over 300 IP participants, Karlo Paolo Pates, project head designated by the Philippine Olympic Committee, said.

Pates said they were expecting only around 200 participants to join the event but the number exceeded 300.

He said similar games are also being held in other parts of the country where there are IP communities.

“Itong IP games we are conducting is on our second year because of the mandate of President Duterte to give an inclusive program for the IPs.This is the 5th edition of the project. Napuntahan namin ang Davao Del Norte, Ifugao, Benguet and South Cotabato last year. This is our first edition for this year, here in Palawan,” he said.

The games included competitions on pana, supok, sibat, langoy, pagbayo ng bigas and kadang-kadang.
