The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it will file a case against a vlogger for spreading fake news that the police will raid the residence of former president Rodrigo Duterte in Davao City.
PNP chief Gen. Romel Marbil said they have already identified the Davao-based vlogger.
“Pina-freeze natin ang evidence. I don’t want to name the person, but we’ll be filing a case doon sa isang tao na nagkalat na [we will raid] ‘yung bahay [of Duterte],” Marbil said during a press conference at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The PNP declared war against the spread of fake news with the Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee (JAFNAC) which was launched on May 2.
He said the JAFNAC, led by Deputy for Operations Lt. Gen. Robert Rodriguez, is working with the Anti-Cybercrime Group for a focused and thorough probe to identify and hold accountable those responsible for spreading baseless and malicious information.
The task force members include the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Bureau of Investigation, Presidential Communications Office, Philippine Information Agency, Department of Information and Communication Technology, National Youth Commission, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, and the PNP Press Corps.
I don’t want to name the person, but we’ll be filing a case doon sa isang tao na nagkalat na [we will raid] ‘yung bahay \[of Duterte],” ani Marbil sa isang press conference sa Camp Crame sa Quezon City.
Aniya, pinangungunahan ni Deputy for Operations Lt. Gen.
Kabilang sa task force ang Department of the Interior and Local Government, Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Bureau of Investigation, Presidential Communications Office, Philippine Information Agency, Department of Information and Communication Technology, National Youth Commission, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, at ang PNP Press Corps.
