The Philippine National Police (PNP) is supporting the 18-day campaign to end violence against women from November 25 to December 12 as part of its commitment to protect the rights and safety of women.
Acting PNP chief Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said violence against women is a human rights issue that needs stronger action.
“As public servants sworn to uphold justice and safeguard communities, we must intensify our efforts to prevent violence, support survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable,” he said.
The PNP is strengthening its programs against gender-based violence through the Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC), which provides trauma-informed assistance to victims.
From August 26 to November 25, the WCPC recorded 6,883 cases, 96% of which were cleared and 57% solved.
The PNP’s efforts include gender-sensitivity training, community policing, public awareness campaigns, and the expansion of programs that aim to protect and empower women and children.
PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño said ending violence against women is not only the responsibility of the police but also of the community. He added that the PNP intends to continue these efforts throughout the year, not only during the campaign period.
