Graduating cadets of the Philippine Military Academy conducted an exposure and outreach mission to Pag-asa Island in Palawan last week to strengthen awareness on territorial defense operations in the West Philippine Sea.
PMA public affairs chief Navy Lt. Cmdr. Jesse Nestor Saludo said members of the PMA “Talang Dangal” Class of 2026 visited the island on April 6 aboard BRP Tarlac (LD-601) as part of a community engagement and training exposure program.
Saludo said the activity aimed to immerse graduating cadets in the operational realities of the area, underscoring the strategic importance of Pag-asa Island and the Kalayaan Island Group in the country’s territorial defense posture in the West Philippine Sea.
During the visit, cadets conducted outreach activities with residents, including community games for children and a recruitment drive for PMA cadetship.
They also turned over 50 armchairs to the Pag-asa Integrated School, delivered medical supplies to the local rural health unit, and extended cash assistance sourced from their class funds, according to the PMA.
