The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Science High School System (DOST-PSHSS) will return to Palawan in September for its school-to-school caravan to promote the National Competitive Examination (NCE).
The group, led by PSHSS Deputy Executive Director Shena Faith Ganela, was in Palawan from August 11 to 15 to visit schools in Aborlan, Narra, El Nido, Roxas, Taytay, San Vicente, and Puerto Princesa City. They will be back next month to continue the activity in Brooke’s Point, Quezon, Rizal, Bataraza, and Sofronio Española.
Ganela said only 12 out of 336 scholars at the Pisay MIMAROPA Regional Campus in Romblon are from Palawan.
“Palawan has an immense pool of young talent that deserves to be nurtured. Through this campaign, we want to tell every child in Palawan: if you are curious, capable, and dream of a future in science, Pisay is for you,” she said.
The Pisay scholarship application opened on June 16 and will close on November 7, 2025. The examination is set on January 31, 2026.
Grade 6 students from DepEd-recognized schools with a final grade of 85 percent and above in mathematics and science or in the top 10 of the class may apply. Applicants must also be Filipinos without an approved or pending immigrant visa and not more than 15 years old as of June 30, 2026.
Testing centers are already designated in Brooke’s Point, Coron, Taytay, El Nido, Roxas, and Puerto Princesa City, and may be increased if the number of applicants grows. Scholars will receive a ₱4,000 monthly grant, free tuition, loaned textbooks, and a monthly stipend.
