The Pinoy Workers Partylist extended immediate relief assistance to residents of Barangay Maoyon in Puerto Princesa City who were affected by flooding brought by continuous heavy rains on Monday night, October 6.
A total of 170 food packs were prepared for distribution to around 150 affected families during the relief operation conducted by the Pinoy Workers team on October 7. The packs contained bread and bottled water as initial aid for residents whose homes and belongings were damaged by the floodwaters.
According to the Barangay Maoyon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee, the flooding occurred after hours of nonstop rainfall that caused the river to overflow, submerging several low-lying areas of the barangay. Based on official records, 150 families or 389 individuals were affected by the incident.
Three families, composed of 13 individuals, are currently staying at the new barangay hall, which was converted into a temporary evacuation center, while 147 families or 363 individuals have opted to stay outside the designated evacuation site, either with relatives or in makeshift shelters near their homes.
Barangay officials expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Pinoy Workers Partylist, saying it helped address the immediate needs of residents while they await further support from the city government and other agencies.
The Pinoy Workers Partylist said its team continues to monitor affected communities in Puerto Princesa and other parts of Palawan that have been impacted by the recent heavy rains, as part of its ongoing relief and outreach initiatives for vulnerable sectors.
