The Philippine government has backed away from plans to ban Roblox, opting instead to push for stricter child protection measures following talks with platform officials and stakeholders.
Officials from the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center said they would work with the company to strengthen safeguards against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
The decision follows a meeting on April 7 involving government agencies, law enforcement, private sector groups, and Roblox representatives, where the company committed to tightening content monitoring and enforcing age-appropriate controls on its platform.
Roblox also pledged to roll out an information campaign on April 12 aimed at helping parents navigate safety features, including parental controls for screen time, spending limits, content restrictions, and age-based experience filters.
Last month, the CICC issued a 30-day ultimatum to the platform over reports that predators and criminal groups were using it to target minors, warning of a possible nationwide block if concerns were not addressed.
Instead of imposing a ban, authorities are now leaning toward regulation and enforcement, signaling a shift toward holding digital platforms accountable while keeping access open for users.
