Philippine Air Force (PAF) FA-50 fighter jets joined allied aircraft in the final day of Australia’s Exercise Pitch Black 2026, showcasing the country’s growing role in multinational air defense operations.
Four FA-50 Golden Eagle fighter jets flew alongside aircraft from 20 other countries during the concluding air combat exercises held Thursday in Darwin, Australia.
Exercise Pitch Black, hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force from July 20 to Aug. 7, brought together air forces from 21 partner nations to train in advanced combat missions and strengthen coordination during joint military operations.
The Department of National Defense (DND) said the drills are designed to improve interoperability, operational readiness and regional defense cooperation among participating countries.
Among the participating nations are the Philippines’ key security partners, including Australia, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia.
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., who is in Australia for the 3rd Philippines-Australia Defense Ministers’ Meeting, witnessed the takeoff of the Philippine fighter jets during the exercise.
The PAF also deployed a C-130 transport aircraft and about 200 pilots and support personnel to participate in the multinational training.
According to the PAF, the exercise includes complex day and night air combat scenarios aimed at improving pilots’ operational skills and preparing them for modern aerial warfare.
Pitch Black 2026 marks the Philippines’ second participation in the multinational exercise after making its debut in 2024.
