The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the United States Indo-Pacific Command held their annual Mutual Defense Board and Security Engagement Board (MDB-SEB) meeting at the Philippine Military Academy on Thursday.
The AFP said that the high-level engagement aimed to further solidify the long-standing defense and security partnership between the Philippines and the United States.
The meeting was co-chaired by General Romeo Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the AFP, and Admiral Samuel John Paparo Jr., Commander of United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM).
Both high ranking military leaders emphasized the critical role of the MDB-SEB in addressing mutual defense concerns and enhancing cooperation between the two allied nations.
This year’s discussions centered on several key areas, including joint training exercises, strengthening defense capabilities, and enhancing maritime security cooperation.
These focus areas reflect the shared commitment of the Philippines and the United States to respond to evolving security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
General Brawner, in his closing remarks, underscored the significance of the MDB-SEB meeting, highlighting its role in advancing the Philippines-U.S. alliance.
“Today’s meeting is one of the major activities which the Philippines and the U.S. conduct bilaterally. Throughout the years, we progress a lot, and I can say that the future between the Philippines-U.S. alliance through the USINDOPACOM is very bright,” he stated.
Admiral Paparo echoed these sentiments, noting the importance of collaboration and shared goals in maintaining regional stability.
The MDB-SEB serves not only as a platform for dialogue but also as a vehicle for actionable cooperation, aligning the defense strategies of the two countries to ensure preparedness against common threats.
Both parties reiterated their dedication to upholding a rules-based international order, a principle seen as essential for maintaining peace and security in the region.
The reaffirmation of commitments to freedom of navigation and regional stability further solidified the resolve of the Philippines and the United States to work together in safeguarding the Indo-Pacific’s security landscape.
The MDB-SEB continues to play a crucial role in shaping the defense landscape of the region, ensuring that the strategic partnership between the Philippines and the United States remains robust and effective in addressing current and future security challenges.
