Heavy rains will continue to drench Palawan as the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) remains active over the region, according the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday.
“Sa ating mga kababayan dito sa Palawan, asahan pa rin po yung madalas na malalakas na mga pag-ulan, lalo na sa Central at Southern portions. Epekto po ito ng ITCZ.,” Benison Estareja said in a weather bulletin.
Palawan residents are advised to remain vigilant as the rains could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas. Estareja noted that the province’s already saturated soil heightens the risk of landslides.
In addition to Palawan, nearby regions in Visayas, such as Negros Oriental and parts of Eastern Visayas, are also bracing for significant rainfall.
Despite the persistent rains, Estareja confirmed that no low-pressure area or typhoon is forecast to affect the country until at least the first days of 2025.
For those planning to travel by sea, the forecaster warned of rough conditions, particularly in northern Luzon, where the Amihan (Northeast Monsoon) is causing strong winds and waves reaching up to 4.5 meters.
“Wala tayong bagyo sa ngayon, pero patuloy ang epekto ng ITCZ kaya’t mataas pa rin ang tsansa ng mga malalakas na pag-ulan sa Palawan,” he added.
