The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that two of its personnel were apprehended in an entrapment operation conducted by the Puerto Princesa City Police Office in Barangay Liwanag on June 18.
The PCG said the suspects—an Ensign and a Petty Officer Third Class assigned to the Provost Marshal Unit–Palawan—were arrested following an extortion complaint.
They were brought to Police Station 1 in Puerto Princesa City for documentation and investigation.
“The PCG maintains zero tolerance policy for any form of misconduct and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in service,” PCG spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said.
She added that the agency is coordinating with police authorities as the probe continues.
“We continue to cooperate with the PNP as the investigation progresses and appropriate actions shall be pursued in accordance with existing regulations,” Cayabyab said.
The PCG also said it has launched a parallel internal investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident and possible administrative liabilities under its policies.
