Tourism officers from Palawan’s provincial government and municipalities joined a three-day workshop aimed at helping local governments prepare tourism plans based on data and the needs of communities.
The Department of Tourism in MIMAROPA held the Workshop on Local Tourism Development Planning from August 11 to 13 in Puerto Princesa City.
Participants studied how to prepare local tourism profiles and identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing destinations. They also discussed tourism problems, possible products and sites, and the development of tourism circuits connecting several attractions.
Provincial Tourism Officer Maribel Buñi said the training would help tourism officers make decisions using available information.
“This training strengthens our capacity for evidence-based tourism planning and ensures that our programs and strategies respond to the needs of our destinations and communities while promoting sustainable tourism development in Palawan,” Buñi said.
The workshop also guided participants in identifying tourism issues and opportunities and preparing strategies and action plans for their respective Local Tourism Development Plans.
The plans are expected to guide provincial and municipal governments in managing destinations, developing tourism products and addressing the effects of tourism on communities and the environment.
