Amy Roa Alvarez will make history as Palawan’s first woman governor when she takes her oath of office tomorrow, June 30, at the Ambassador Hall of the City State Asturias Hotel in Puerto Princesa City.
Her inaugural speech is expected to lay out a five-point agenda, which includes strengthening the province’s health and hospital systems, expanding access to education and skills training, empowering municipalities and barangays through decentralized governance, fostering partnerships across various sectors, and promoting youth inclusive youth participation and leadership.
Alvarez, who served as mayor of San Vicente, will assume the post after winning the May elections. She is known for her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and Typhoon Odette, which heavily impacted San Vicente.
“This is not just a transfer of power. It is a turning point for everyone who has ever felt unseen, and yet, chose to stay anyway,” Alvarez said in a statement ahead of her oath-taking, committing to lead the province with integrity, inclusivity, and a people-first approach to public service.
The program outlines the swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected and re-elected municipal officials from the first, second, and third districts, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the province’s three congressional representatives: Rosalie Salvame from the first district, Jose Ch. Alvarez from the second district, and Gil Acosta Jr. from the third district.
