Palawan State University (Palawan SU) emerges as the frontrunner in the ongoing 2024 STRASUC Olympics, racking up an impressive haul of 34 gold medals, 10 silver, and 13 bronze, for a total of 57 medals.
As of 8:13 p.m. on October 23, the university sits comfortably at the top of the “partial and unofficial” medal tally, leaving other state universities and colleges (SUCs) across the Southern Tagalog Region behind.
Trailing Palawan SU is Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), which has secured 38 medals in total, comprising 5 gold, 20 silver, and 13 bronze. Despite having fewer gold medals, SLSU’s strong performance in silver placements helped solidify its second-place standing.
Cavite State University (CvSU) follows closely in third place, with 15 gold medals, 10 silver, and 6 bronze, totaling 31 medals. Western Philippines University (WPU), another Palawan-based institution, managed to claim the fourth spot with a total of 22 medals, including 4 golds, 4 silvers, and 14 bronzes.
Rounding out the top five are Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) and the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), both tied with 17 medals. LSPU earned 4 golds, 9 silvers, and 4 bronzes, while UPLB brought home 1 gold, 6 silvers, and 10 bronzes.
Notable competitors in the middle ranks include Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) and University of Rizal System (URS), both garnering 10 medals each. OMSC holds 2 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals, while URS secured 1 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze.
The remaining institutions, such as Marinduque State University (MSU), Mindoro State University (MinSU), Batangas State University (BatSU), and Romblon State University (RSU), have struggled to keep up with the medal leaders. MSU has claimed 7 medals so far, with 3 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes, while MinSU, BatSU, and RSU have yet to strike gold.
This year’s STRASUC Olympics continues to showcase the athletic talents of students from various state universities in Southern Tagalog, with Palawan SU maintaining its dominance.
The STRASUC Olympics is a major sporting event for the Southern Tagalog Region, fostering unity, athleticism, and camaraderie among participating universities.
