The Palawan provincial government has sent a team from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to Batanes to assist in the rescue and emergency response operations there.

Winston Arzaga, provincial information officer, said on Monday that the team led by PDRRMO chief Jeremias Alili, will help in transporting casualties, personnel and food and non-food items to hard-hit areas.

Arzaga said Governor Jose Chaves Alvarez immediately ordered the PDRRMO to help in the areas that are inaccessible to bigger aircrafts.

The rescue team used the airplane of the governor, he said.

As of Monday, reports said that there were nine casualties recorded from two earthquakes that hit the province.

Report from the National Disaster Risk and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday showed there are total of 2,963 people or 911 families that were affected by the tremors that have generated some 180 aftershocks.

Arzaga said the national government did not ask for assistance from Palawan and it was also the first time that PDRRMO sent assistance to another province.
