Palawan in possible path of March tropical cyclone

A potential tropical cyclone could develop this March, with one possible path leading toward Palawan, the state weather bureau reported Saturday.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Grace Castañeda stated that while there is no weather disturbance within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), meteorologists are closely monitoring atmospheric conditions for any storm formation.

“Ngayong buwan ng Marso ay posibleng wala or posible din naman na meron tayong isang bagyo na maaaring pumasok or mabuo sa loob ng ating area of responsibility. At ayon nga sa ating monthly climatology track, itong bagyo na ito ay posible pong tahakin itong Visayas-Mindanao area patungo dito sa area ng Palawan or posible din naman itong mag-recurve at maging malayo sa anumang bahagi ng ating kalupaan,” she said.

This indicates that Palawan is still within the possible path of any system that may form this month, she stated, even if there is no guarantee that a storm will hit the province.

For today’s weather, Castañeda said the shear line and the northeast monsoon will combine to bring gloomy skies and the possibility of rain showers to Palawan, even if the country is not presently under a storm.

Clouds are forming over Mindanao and Visayas in the east, as shown in satellite animations, due to the shear line. These areas may expect heavy rain and frequent thunderstorms as a result of this weather system.

She said the shear line is likely to bring gloomy skies, frequent thunderstorms, and heavy rain to the Davao Region, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga. These regions are also expected to suffer strong winds. Rainfall is expected to be accompanied by high gusts and sporadic lightning.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon persists in its influence on Northern and Central Luzon, resulting in frigid temperatures, particularly during the early morning and evening hours.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon can anticipate partly overcast to cloudy skies with a minor possibility of isolated showers, while areas such as Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain.

She added that despite the lack of a gale warning, small boat operators and anglers should use caution while traveling the waterways. In particular, the eastern coasts of Mindanao and Visayas may anticipate moderate to rough sea conditions.
