The provincial government of Palawan is eyeing the establishment of a socialized housing project for former rebels in the municipalities of Brooke’s Point and Española, as part of its priority programs under the General Welfare Committee.
The proposal was presented during the recent Sectoral Planning Workshop held at the Provincial Capitol, where various social service initiatives were discussed in preparation for the 2026 Annual Investment Program (AIP) and the Local Development Investment Program (LDIP) for 2026–2028.
Under the National Housing Authority’s (NHA) Housing Program for Former Rebels and aligned with the 3-Year Transformation Program Roadmap (FY 2025–2027), the housing project is expected to benefit around 20 former rebels.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Abigail Ablaña, who also chairs the committee, said the provincial government is committed to supporting the project by allocating ₱2.4 million for the development of road networks, drainage systems, water and power installations in the proposed housing sites.
“We continue to focus on expanding community-based programs that support youth development, and protection of vulnerable groups. Guided by data and collaboration, we aim to deliver more inclusive and sustainable social services for every Palaweño,” said Ablaña.
In addition to the housing proposal, the planning workshop included the presentation of the Palawan Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP) for 2024–2030 and the Peace and Order and Public Safety (POPS) Plan for 2026–2028.
The provincial government said it remains committed to addressing the needs of Palaweños through inclusive social programs aimed at improving the quality of life in local communities.
