Disaster response units across Palawan were recognized for their frontline role in protecting communities, as the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) MIMAROPA honored 23 Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMCs) during a regional ceremony on March 19.
The councils received plaques of recognition for implementing programs on disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery—key pillars in building resilient communities.
The activity, held in partnership with the League of Local DRRMOs of Palawan and the provincial government through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), highlighted the importance of local leadership in disaster risk management.
Provincial DRRM Officer Jeremias Y. Alili said the recognition affirms the continued commitment of local responders and encourages them to sustain their efforts.
“This recognition coming from OCD is malaking bagay for everyone to keep our fire burning sa ating service sa ating mga kababayan… everyone is empowered, everyone knows what to do in times of disaster,” Alili said.
OCD MIMAROPA Regional Director Arnulfo C. Matanguihan stressed that effective disaster management is rooted in preparedness and long-term resilience.
“Your dedication is a powerful reminder that DRR is not just simply responding to emergencies; it is about protecting lives, safeguarding development, and building a culture of resilience in our communities,” he said.
Also recognized during the event were several municipal DRRM offices that assisted El Nido during Typhoon Tino in November 2025, receiving plaques of appreciation for their quick response.
Newly elected officers of the League of LDRRMOs of Palawan also took their oath, as the province continues to strengthen disaster preparedness through capacity-building and inter-agency coordination.
