In 2017, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) developed a Philhealth Learner’s Materials (PLM) for Grade 10-12 and certified by the Department of Education (DepEd) in compliance with the K-12 Curriculum.
The said material was used in teaching the PhilHealth Lesson in the Health Component of the Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health or MAPEH subject.
According to Marian Carlos, Information Officer of Philhealth-Palawan, the integration of the PML into Grade 10-12 curricula aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding about PhilHealth and the values and principles of social health insurance, particularly on the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP).
Through the conduct of PhilHealth Quiz Bee, in coordination with DepEd, the two agencies can test the knowledge of students on PhilHealth products and services; check their spelling abilities on health-related terms; enhance and deepen their knowledge about PhilHealth and encourage them to become advocates of Philhealth. This will also serve as a venue for the improvement of PLM and boost the adoption of this material by private secondary schools. (OCJ/PIA-MIMAROPA, Palawan)
