The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Palawan Provincial Office led a gathering of public and private construction sector representatives to promote safer worksites through its “Zero Accidents Alliance: D.O. 252-25 Orientation and Commitment for Accident-Free Worksites” at Fersal Hotel, Brgy. Bancao-Bancao on November 14.
The activity, attended by 60 safety officers and practitioners, served as the local launch of the “United for Zero Accidents: A Call to Action” campaign. It aims to strengthen collaboration, share best practices, and pool resources for safer workplaces, aligning with the International Labour Organization’s global strategy on occupational safety and health.
A highlight of the event was the signing of the “Inter-Agency Memorandum of Agreement for Construction Safety and Health Standards in Palawan” by DOLE Palawan Provincial Office Head Engr. Rhea J. Paitan, together with representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and the Provincial and City Engineering Offices.
“It is a combination (of work)—nandito ang government sector especially the regulating bodies sa construction, ang DOLE, at ating mga representatives sa management and workers. Kailangang pong mag-collab tayo… para sa health and safety. Doon po tayo naka-focus,” Paitan said.
“Ang OSH po ay non-negotiable dahil hindi na natin maibabalik ang buhay na nawala o ang mga nagkaroon ng disabling injuries,” she added.
The dialogue also included presentations on occupational safety and health appreciation, salient features of Department Order No. 252-25, guidelines for joint administrative orders, and the PhilHealth Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP). DOLE Palawan said the initiative aims to create a safer, healthier, and more productive construction industry in the province.
