Malacañang has warned oil companies against profiteering from gasoline and diesel prices in Palawan.

Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles on Monday morning said that President Rodrigo Duterte has taken note of the “excessive” oil prices in the province, citing surcharge of around P10 compared to the national price.

“Nagtataka kami na bakit ganoon kataas—halos P10 ang taas dito sa Palawan kaya pina-iimbestigahan na ‘yan sa Department of Energy (DOE),” he said.

Nograles negated the claims of oil companies that “transportation cost” is affecting oil prices, pointing out that based on their calculation, it should not spike as much.

“Masyadong mataas ‘yong presyong ipinapatong nila. Sabi nila transportation cost pero based on our investigation, hindi naman ganoon kataas,” he added.

He also reminded the oil companies to “comply” with the DOE’s investigation and recommendation or the Palace will intervene.

“Panawagan sa oil companies na tingnan naman nila [‘yong presyo] kasi kung hindi, kami naman ay tumitingin din,” Nograles said.
