The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring rain to many parts of the country in the next 24 hours, including Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan.
Daniel James Villamil, PAGASA’s weather specialist, said thick clouds over these areas are already visible on satellite images.
He said the weather pattern will continue to produce scattered rain and thunderstorms.
“Itong ITCZ magdudulot ng mga pag-ulan ngayong araw sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas, Mindanao, pati na rin dito sa ilang areas ng Southern Luzon,” he said.
In Luzon, the northeast monsoon will affect the northern section, bringing light rain to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera region, and Aurora.
Metro Manila and most of Luzon will have fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies. Short rain showers or thunderstorms may still develop in the afternoon or evening.
Ilocos may see light rain. Mimaropa and the Bicol Region may experience scattered rain because of the same weather system. PAGASA advised communities in Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan to stay alert for possible floods or landslides.
“Possibly sustained yung mga kaulapan at pag-ulan na ito, kaya patuloy po tayong maging handa at alerto sa mga bantaan ng flooding at landslides, lalong lalo na kung tuloy-tuloy at malalakas yung mga pagulan na ating mararanasan,” he said.
Sea travel is now safer after the final gale warning was lifted at 5 a.m., but waters around Northern Luzon may remain moderate to rough.
No low pressure area is being monitored inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
From Sunday to Monday, rain from the intertropical convergence zone will continue in Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan. Rain in Quezon, the Bicol Region and inland Mimaropa will begin to ease. By Tuesday and Wednesday, weather will start to improve in those areas.
The northeast monsoon will strengthen early next week, bringing cooler air to Luzon and lowering the chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
But it may also produce rain along the eastern side of Luzon, including Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon and the Bicol Region.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to have fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and the usual afternoon or evening showers.
