On its second year in Palawan, the free medical-dental and diagnostics mission of the SM Foundation catered to 2,318 patients from children to the elderly.

The patients who came from different barangays in Puerto Princesa City and municipalities of Palawan received free medical consultation, random blood sugar screening, blood pressure monitoring, blood typing, ECG, dental services, and free medicines on July 17-18, 2019 at the 2nd Level of SM City Puerto Princesa.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa [medical] mission na ito dahil maraming natutulungan lalo na ang mga hirap bumili ng gamot,” said Leandro Gamit, resident of Bgy. Tagburos.

Dubbed as Gamot para sa Kapwa, SM Foundation’s medical mission program will be an annual activity, which provides free, comprehensive, accessible and quality medical and dental care as part of its health and wellness programs targeting marginalized members of society with the goal of creating sustainable communities.

“We will be back next year; hopefully, we could also bring our Mobile Clinic to expand the medical services we could provide to Palaweños,” Dr. Blesilla Bertos, SM Foundation Health Services senior project manager said.

The two-day activity was a collaborative effort of SM in partnership with the City Government of Puerto Princesa thru the City Health Office, Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, the AFP Naval Forces West, Philippine Red Cross – Palawan Chapter, GMA Kapwa Ko Mahal Ko, Watsons, and JCI Puerto Princesa Oil.

For SM Foundation, caring for the sick and the less fortunate has gone beyond traditional. It means promoting the total wellbeing of individuals by providing them basic health services and most of all, encouraging them to have a positive outlook despite life’s many challenges.
