More than 5,500 people remain displaced across Palawan as of 8 a.m. on September 27, as Severe Tropical Storm Opong continues to affect communities and forces families to seek shelter in evacuation centers.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that a total of 1,658 families or 5,571 individuals are still staying in temporary shelters inside and outside evacuation centers.
The largest numbers of evacuees were recorded in Maggayagcay, with 770 families or 2,474 individuals, followed by Cagayancillo with 348 families or 1,210 individuals, and Aborlan with 237 families or 674 individuals.
Inside evacuation centers, 1,277 families or 4,828 individuals remain sheltered, while 318 families or 960 individuals are outside, staying with relatives or in makeshift shelters.
Despite the large-scale evacuation, officials confirmed that there were no reported casualties, injuries, or missing persons. No damage to infrastructure or agriculture has been recorded so far.
Authorities have also suspended classes in 11 municipalities and work in four localities to ensure the safety of residents.
The PDRRMO said lifelines, including power, water, roads, and communication, remain operational across the province, helping sustain displaced families.
