The province of Occidental Mindoro has confirmed its 40th COVID-positive case, involving a 34-year-old female personnel of the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm.

A statement released by its provincial government Friday said the patient is asymptomatic or not showing any symptoms of the disease and has no history of travel. The patient’s swab samples were taken on June 6 as part of expanded testing for prison personnel in the province.

Occidental Mindoro remains to have the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the whole of MIMAROPA region, followed by Oriental Mindoro with 24 positive cases. It is also awaiting test results for 30 cases, involving mostly construction workers in a Department of Public Works and Highways project. It has nine recoveries and 1 death.

Palawan remains to have four COVID-19 positive cases on record.
