The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that the northeast monsoon, or amihan, continues to affect Northern Luzon, while the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is bringing scattered rains to Mindanao.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said no low pressure areas or tropical cyclones are currently being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
“Sa kasalukuyan, wala po tayong binabantayan na low pressure area o bagyo sa loob ng ating PAR,” he said.
The northeast monsoon is expected to strengthen over the next three days, influencing much of Luzon and parts of the Visayas. Cloudy skies with scattered rain are likely in the Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera region today. Meanwhile, a shear line may affect eastern parts of Luzon later this afternoon, increasing the likelihood of scattered rain showers.
In Visayas and Mindanao, the ITCZ will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms to regions such as Davao, Caraga, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. The rest of Mindanao and the Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated showers or thunderstorms.
Due to strong winds associated with the amihan, rough to very rough seas are expected in the coastal waters of Batanes, the northern part of Cagayan (including the Babuyan Islands), and northern Ilocos Norte. Wave heights may reach up to five meters, and PAGASA advises fisherfolk and small boat operators to avoid venturing out to sea in these areas.
