The Naval Forces West (NFW) gave awards and medals on Sunday to around 20 outgoing security personnel from the different Kalayaan Islands Group (KIG) detachments in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Commodore Sean Anthony Villa led the simple arrival and awarding ceremony aboard the Philippine Navy (PN) combat vessel BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS17) in Puerto Princesa City.
“Commodore Villa thanked the outgoing security personnel for their sacrifices, vigilance, and devotion in safeguarding their respective stations in the West Philippine Sea,” Lt. Ronne Riel Grimpola, public affairs chief of the NFW, said in a statement.
The Western Command (WESCOM) through the NFW continues to perform its mandate of protecting
the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country, it said.
The statement also said the NFW is continuously conducting maritime patrols which are designed to protect the maritime domain and to ensure the safety and well-being of marines and sailors stationed in far-flung detachments and stations in the WPS.
