The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA signed a memorandum of agreement with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) MIMAROPA and other government agencies on November 6, to establish the MIMAROPA Regional Ecology Center (REC).
The REC will serve as a coordinating hub for ecological solid waste management initiatives in the region in line with Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
Under the agreement, and in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) MIMAROPA, EMB MIMAROPA, and other offices, DTI MIMAROPA will lead efforts to promote resource recovery, conduct product standard studies, and encourage the use of environmentally preferable products.
The agency will also provide technical assistance and help develop a coding system for packaging materials and products to support the implementation of sustainable waste management programs across the MIMAROPA region.
