NCCC will close its supermarket and HB1 Pharmacy on Malvar Street in Puerto Princesa City on July 15 as part of a company-wide realignment of its retail network, while its historic mall on Lacao Street will remain open.
In a statement, the Mindanao-based retail company said the closure of the supermarket and pharmacy is part of the New City Commercial Corporation (NCCC) Group’s efforts to realign its store network.
NCCC said it is closing selected branches to focus its investments on key locations and strengthen its operations amid changing market conditions and consumer demand.
“Our commitment to serving various communities of Mindanao and Palawan remains unchanged. NCCC continues to operate its network of stores and remains focused on delivering quality products and our signature Service from the Heart,” the company said.
The company added that its other stores in Mindanao and Palawan will continue operating as it remains committed to serving its customers.
Aside from the Malvar branch, NCCC is also closing several other branches in the Davao Region. These include NCCC Supermarket Bolton (July 31), NCCC Supermarket Lupon (June 30), NCCC Department Store Lupon (July 1), NCCC Hardwaremaxx Lupon (July 1), Choice Mart Kapalong (July 15), Choice Mart Catalunan Grande (July 31), as well as HB1 Pharmacy branches in Lupon (June 30), Kapalong (July 15), Bolton (July 31), Catalunan Grande (July 31), and Malvar (July 15).
The announcement also settles long-running speculation that the NCCC Mall on Lacao Street was set to close after its grocery section became noticeably depleted in recent years. The mall itself is not among the branches scheduled for closure.
Founded by the Jose Tan Sy family, NCCC operates department stores, supermarkets, grocery stores, malls, hardware stores, pharmacies, convenience stores, and other retail outlets across Mindanao and Palawan.
Opened in 1991, the NCCC Mall on Lacao Street is recognized as Palawan’s first modern shopping mall.
