The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Narra, Palawan, held the “Healthy Aging and Improving Skills” program on Aug. 21 to promote the well-being of senior citizens and strengthen social services in the municipality.
Acting Mayor Jojo Gastanes attended the activity at the Municipal Lagoon and expressed support for efforts to improve services for older people and other vulnerable sectors.
The program was conducted with social workers from Thailand and South Korea, who shared their knowledge and approaches to elderly care, skills development and social service delivery.
Gastanes said learning from international experiences could help the municipality improve the quality of life of its residents, particularly senior citizens.
“Ang pagkakaisa at pagkatuto mula sa karanasan ng ibang bansa ay susi sa mas maunlad at mas maayos na pangangalaga sa ating mga kababayan, lalo na sa ating mga lolo at lola. Ang programang ito ay patunay na hindi tayo nag-iisa sa paghahanap ng paraan upang mapabuti ang kanilang kalagayan,” Gastanes said.
The visiting social workers presented practices on elderly care, skills development and strengthening social services that could be adapted to Narra’s local setting.
The “Healthy Aging and Improving Skills” program aims to promote healthy lifestyles among senior citizens, increase their skills and participation in the community, and enhance the capabilities of local social workers through exposure to international practices.
The municipal government said the partnership is expected to serve as a foundation for broader and more effective programs for the welfare of Narra residents in the future.
