A patriotic ride for the West Philippine Sea (WPS) will be staged in Palawan on Sunday to awaken the patriot in every Filipino, inform them about the positive actions that the government has taken to address issues concerning the contested region, and to disabuse minds against misinformation by supposedly “politically-motivated interest groups.”
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Nicanor Faeldon, the Western Command (WESCOM) led by Vice Admiral Rene Medina, and members of the motorcycle group Patriot Riders Association of the Philippines, Inc. (Patriot Riders) will jointly take the lead in riding from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) to Bataraza and El Nido on August 25-26, 2019.
Iwahig corrections technical officer and spokesperson Levi Evangelista said Governor Jose Alvarez will also be present to give his message to the riders who will be participating in the event.
“Magbibigay ng kanyang mensahe si Gov. Alvarez and ‘yong information tungkol sa WPS ang magbibigay naman ay si Adm. Medina ng WESCOM para magkaroon ng kaliwanagan kung ano nga ba ‘yong tungkol sa usaping WPS kasi nagkakaroon ng misconception about that matter,” Evangelista said to Palawan News on Friday.
The patriotic ride or “West Philippine Sea Challenge” will have the theme “Awaken the Patriot in You”, he said.
He said Faeldon will also join the ride as he is a member of the Patriotic Rider.
“For the Patriotic Rider group, to ride is their passion and, of course, their love for the country. Mga professional riders ang darating para sumali, they will take the challenge of riding through 1,000 kilometers of road in Palawan. Kukunin lang nila ang ride in just a matter of two days,” he said.
Evangelista said that riders will return to Iwahig around 3 p.m. on August 26 for the closing ceremony.
