Organizers are hoping to get 64 5-member teams to compete in the "TM Battle for Glory 2019".

Heads up, Mobile Legend gamers!

Globe and its cellular service brand TM are bringing the widely popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) mobile game “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang” at the Puerto Princesa City Baywalk on December 14 in a tournament that will be called “TM Battle for Glory 2019”.

The registration for the game will be in the morning. The actual battle, however, will begin at 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Globe area sales manager Emman Montilla said this competitive mobile game, which recently debuted as an “electronic sports or esports” in the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) 2019, is for Palaweño gamers in a bid to help get them away from wicked habits, such as illegal substance use, and unuseful peer influence.

He said playing Mobile Legend (ML) can also assist in increasing their memory abilities and make them become critical thinkers and problem solvers.

“Ang activity na ito ay para sa ating mga Palaweño na kabataan. Gusto namin na ma-involve sila sa sports para malayo rin sila siyempre sa masasamang bisyo, instead of using drugs or makibarkada sa labas, ito na lang ang kawilihan nila. Gusto natin na dito sila sa esports mawili,” he said.

Game flow

ML players are encouraged to group themselves into five and register as a team. Unlike other tournaments, teams in this event will be listed as participants by loading their mobile phones with GoSurf50 for those who have Globe prepaid sim cards and EasySurf50 for TM prepaid sim cards.

Teams should enlist their names to the game master using their main ML account to assure its legitimacy while participating in the tournament.

The tournament will be divided into red and blue teams to compete in the different elimination phases. Each color has 32 teams that will compete for knockout bracket type, a BO3 (Best of 3) series in Bracket Finals, and BO5 (Best of Five) series in the Grand Finals.

Kaiser Louren Yves Balaoro, game master, said they are expecting to achieve the target number of 64 teams that participate in the 2019 tournament.

“Sixty-four teams tapos five members per team ang kailangan. Ini-expect namin na mas marami ‘yong sasali kasi ‘yong sa past tournaments, marami rin ang sumali. Ini-expect namin na kaya namin ma-reach ‘yong 64 teams,” he said.

Test of skill and mind

Montilla said that today’s digital play will challenge the minds of competing teams to prove their skills to win the battle.

“This is esports, kumbaga nauuso pagdating sa digital. Kakaiba kasi kalimitin ang mga tournament is more physical. This time around, it’s  digital play. It is more online. Kumbaga pautakan, patalinuhan sa strategy kung paano mabe-beat ‘yong kalaban,” he said.

He encouraged all Palaweño gamers in the city and province to join the ML battle for glory tournament for a chance to take home P20,000 cash for the winning team and P5,000 cash for the runner up.

“Iniimbitahan namin kayo na sumali sa aming Mobile Legend tournament na gaganapin sa December 14. Puwede natin na ma-contact ‘yong mga number para kung papaano sumali and ‘yong registration ay sa December 14 din pero sa umaga and the playtime ay 1 p.m. hanggang 10 p.m.,” he said.

The tournament is in line with the celebration of the “Pista Na, Pasko Pa in Puerto Princesa City”.
