A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 1.6 was recorded near Coron, Palawan, on Thursday, October 3, at 6:10 p.m.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) stated in a post on Thursday that the earthquake was 32 kilometers deep and located approximately 1 kilometer northwest of Coron.
Its origin was tectonic, or a sudden release of energy due to the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates. The plates grinding against each other at fault lines frequently cause these movements.
According to Temblor.net, the last minor earthquake in Palawan occurred on September 30, when a magnitude 2.7 tremor struck off the coast of Araceli.
