Tree planting, environmental advocacy, and employee wellness took center stage as the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Mimaropa gathered mining companies, government agencies, and industry stakeholders for its Annual Tree Planting and Wellness Activities in celebration of Philippine Environmental Month 2026.
Held under the theme, “Climate Action: Fostering Community Spirit, Caring for the Environment,” the event underscored the mining sector’s commitment to environmental stewardship while promoting employee well-being, teamwork, and stronger collaboration among regulators and industry partners.
The celebration opened with simultaneous tree-planting activities at the PQMI Rehabilitation Project Site and the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC), where participants planted trees as part of ongoing environmental rehabilitation and conservation efforts.
MGB Mimaropa also integrated the observance of Pride Month into the program by promoting diversity, inclusion, and respect in the workplace, emphasizing the importance of creating an environment where every employee and stakeholder feels valued.
Officials from local government units, environmental agencies, and mining companies joined the event, reaffirming their support for responsible mining practices and sustainable environmental initiatives across the Mimaropa region.
The celebration continued with wellness activities and friendly sports competitions, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, darts, chess, and a cheering competition, bringing together employees and representatives from participating mining firms and government offices.
During the awarding ceremony, Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) successfully defended its overall championship title in the annual sportsfest, securing back-to-back championships after also emerging as the overall winner in 2025.
MGB Mimaropa said the annual celebration forms part of its continuing efforts to promote environmental responsibility, workplace wellness, and stronger partnerships among stakeholders in the region’s mineral industry.
