President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced Monday that the Philippines will conduct a rocket launch test in Cagayan next year as the government moves to establish the country’s presence in the space industry.
Marcos made the announcement during his fifth State of the Nation Address, saying the launch will be conducted in partnership with an unidentified South Korean aerospace company.
“Yes, we are going to launch a rocket into space,” Marcos said.
The President did not identify the South Korean company or provide further details about the planned rocket launch.
Marcos said Cagayan is geographically and economically positioned to become the country’s gateway to space and the site of the Philippines’ first spaceport.
He said the province could also support the growth of future space-related industries as the government seeks to expand the country’s role in the global space sec
