A low pressure area (LPA) is being closely monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as it affects weather across parts of the country today, Tuesday, May 20.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the LPA was last spotted 295 kilometers south-southeast of Kalayaan, Palawan. While it is not expected to become a storm, it will bring scattered rain showers to Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands.
“Ito naman pong low pressure area ay hindi magiging isang ganap na bagyo pero inaasahan natin magdadala po ito ng mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan dito sa may Palawan,” she said.
The LPA is embedded within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a weather system that also continues to affect Palawan and Mindanao. Meanwhile, easterlies, or warm and humid winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, are still affecting Luzon and parts of the Visayas.
For today’s forecast, Luzon can expect hot and humid weather by noon until afternoon, followed by a high chance of localized thunderstorms, especially in the evening. PAGASA advises everyone to check their official social media pages for thunderstorm advisories.
