A hacking incident occurred on September 21 at around 10:30 PM in Barangay Paglaum, Taytay, Palawan, resulting in the death of one man and injuries to two others.
According to the police, jealousy is being considered as the motive behind the incident. The investigation is ongoing to complete the details and file appropriate charges against the suspect.
The victims were identified as Alias Rey, 34, single, a resident of the area; and Alias Rina, 27, from Barangay Libertad, Taytay, Palawan. The suspect was identified as Alias Merlyn, 38 years old, married, and also a resident of Paglaum.
Based on the investigation, the victim Alias Rey and the suspect Alias Merlyn had a previous relationship. While Alias Rey and his new girlfriend Alias Rina were together inside Rey’s hut and preparing to sleep, the suspect suddenly arrived, looking for the victim. She forcibly opened the door and entered the room.
Upon seeing the victims together, the suspect grabbed a bolo hanging beside the door and attacked the two.
Alias Rey managed to get his own bolo and chased the suspect. In the incident, Alias Merlyn sustained wounds on her head and right arm, while Alias Rey suffered a fatal wound to his chest, leading to his immediate death.
The suspect was rushed to Northern Palawan Provincial Hospital by responding members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Alias Rina was also brought to the same hospital for treatment of her injuries.
