Members of the League of Local Budget Officers Palawan (LLBOP) visited Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corp. (RTNMC) to learn about responsible mineral development, environmental protection, and community development practices.
The activity brought together budget officers from the province’s 23 mainland and island municipalities, who expressed interest in learning from RTNMC’s practices that could potentially be adopted or adapted across Palawan.
Among the topics presented were the company’s contribution through tax remittances, indigenous peoples’ welfare and development initiatives, and the implementation of projects under its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).
RTNMC also highlighted its Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP), as well as its approaches to solid waste and land-use management.
The engagement aimed to provide local budget officers with a better understanding of how responsible mining can contribute to local communities while maintaining environmental safeguards.
The company said the visit also served as an opportunity to share practices in governance, community development, and environmental integrity that may help strengthen local government programs across the province.
The LLBOP delegation included budget officers representing municipalities stretching from Balabac in the south to Cagayancillo in the east of Palawan.
