Save the Children beneficiaries received a surprise visit from Liza Soberano and Grammy and Academy Award winner H.E.R. during a special screening of DreamWorks Animation’s “Forgotten Island” at SM Aura in Taguig on August 25.
Soberano and H.E.R., who voice best friends Raissa and Jo in the film, spent time with the children and joined them in watching the Filipino-inspired animated adventure.
The screening was organized by DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures for children supported by Save the Children, which has worked in the Philippines for more than four decades.
The event also brought Soberano back together with an organization she has long supported as a Save the Children ambassador and advocate for children. H.E.R. has also backed programs supporting marginalized communities.
Directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado also attended the screening. The filmmakers are in Manila with Soberano and H.E.R. for the “Tayo Na, Philippines!” tour, which promotes the Filipino culture, stories and mythology featured in the film.
“Forgotten Island” follows Jo and Raissa, two best friends who are about to take separate paths after graduating from high school.
During their last night together, they discover a portal leading to Nakali, an island inhabited by magical beings and creatures from stories told by their Filipino families.
Jo and Raissa join a “weredog” named Raww and other creatures as they confront The Dreaded Manananggal, voiced by Lea Salonga. The two later learn that returning home could cost them all the memories of their friendship.
The voice cast also includes Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate and Ronny Chieng.
“Forgotten Island” will open in Philippine cinemas on September 23.
