A Lesser Coucal was successfully returned to its natural habitat on September 4 after undergoing nine days of treatment and rehabilitation at the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC).
Wildlife Enforcement Officers (WEOs) of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) released the bird after its condition improved following medical care and continuous monitoring by PWRCC medical staff.
The bird was reported by concerned citizen Ace Ferrer on August 26 after it was found along a roadside in Barangay Iwahig, Puerto Princesa City. It was immediately turned over to the PWRCC for proper care and assessment.
Upon examination, the PWRCC veterinarian found the bird in an unstable condition due to cloacal swelling and vent fouling.
Because of its condition, the Lesser Coucal was not immediately released into the wild and was instead placed under treatment and rehabilitation.
After nine days of care and monitoring, the bird was deemed ready for release and was returned to its natural habitat by the PCSDS WEOs on September 4.
