The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported widespread rainfall across the country, with Palawan experiencing significant rain due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
In its latest weather bulletin on Sunday, December 29, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said three weather systems affecting the country: the ITCZ, the northeast monsoon (amihan), and the shearline. The ITCZ is expected to bring cloudy skies and moderate to heavy rainfall to Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.
“Magiging maulap ang kalangitan sa bahagi ng Palawan na may malaking chance ng mga pag-ulan dulot ng ITCZ,” he said.
In Visayas, areas such as Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban are forecasted to experience similar weather, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 31°C. In Mindanao, Caraga Region, including Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, is expected to have cloudy skies and scattered rain showers.
Meanwhile, Luzon is experiencing a mix of weather conditions due to the combined effects of the amihan and shearline. Northern and Central Luzon, including Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region, will have cloudy skies with light rains brought by the amihan.
Central and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and Bicol Region, may experience moderate to heavy rains due to the shearline, with possible flash floods and landslides in Quezon Province and Bicol.
A gale warning remains in effect for the northern coastal waters of Luzon, with rough seas expected along the coasts of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, and parts of Aurora and Ilocos provinces. PAGASA strongly advises small sea vessels against sailing in these areas due to high waves.
No low-pressure areas are currently being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. However, PAGASA warned that the ongoing weather systems could bring consistent rain over the next few days.
