The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) continues to bring widespread cloudiness and scattered rain showers to Visayas, Palawan, and Mindanao on Friday, December 27, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio confirmed that no low-pressure area (LPA) or tropical cyclone is currently being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility or in the Pacific Ocean. However, the ITCZ remains active, prompting precautionary measures.
“Sa kasalukuyan, malawak ang kaulapan sa Visayas, Palawan, at Mindanao dulot ng ITCZ,” Aurelio stated.
“Samantala, wala po tayong namo-monitor na LPA o bagyo sa loob ng ating Philippine Area of Responsibility at d’yan din sa parte ng Dagat Pasipiko,” he added.
Meanwhile, the amihan or northeast monsoon is still prevailing over Northern Luzon, resulting in cloudy skies with light rains in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, and Ilocos Norte. The same weather pattern is affecting parts of Bicol, particularly Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Catanduanes.
For the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, the weather bureau anticipates generally fair weather today, although isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may still occur.
PAGASA has also issued a gale warning for certain coastal areas due to strong winds brought by the Amihan. “We are expecting high waves, reaching up to five meters, along the coastal waters of Batanes, the northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and the northern and western coasts of Ilocos Norte.
