The private sector is taking part in relief efforts in northern Palawan as Ipilan Nickel Corporation (INC) delivered food aid to families hit hard by Typhoon Tino.
El Nido Mayor Edna Gacot-Lim thanked the mining company for sending sacks of rice to affected residents.
“Malaking tulong po ito sa ating mga pamilyang tinamaan ng Bagyong Tino,” she said in her public post on November 12.
She also acknowledged INC resident manager Alex Arabis and community relations staff members for responding quickly.
Aside from El Nido, the mining company also took rice sacks to the town of Taytay.
“Karangalan po naming makapagbahagi ng tulong at suporta. Asahan po ninyong palagi niyo kaming makakatuwang sa pagsiguro sa kapakanan ng nakararami,” INC said in a post on November 13.
“Matapos ang pananalasa ng Bagyong Tino, naghatid po tayo ng 58 sako ng bigas sa mga pamilyang lubos na naapektuhan sa Brgy. Cataban at Poblacion sa bayan ng Taytay, Palawan,” the company said.
Ipilan Nickel said it hopes the assistance will help families recover as communities continue rebuilding after the storm.
El Nido and Taytay are among the municipalities in northern Palawan heavily impacted by Typhoon Tino, based on the situation summary report released by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on November 10.
The province recorded 42,660 affected families, or 139,739 individuals, with El Nido and Taytay listed among the towns showing some of the highest impact based on the report’s distribution charts.
