A man detained on charges of acts of lasciviousness escaped from the Palawan Provincial Jail in Puerto Princesa City late on July 10.
Retired colonel Gabriel Lopez, the provincial jail warden, confirmed to Palawan News that the inmate fled around 11:30 p.m. by climbing through the ceiling and scaling the facility’s high perimeter wall.
The fugitive was identified as Rodolfo Bunyag, alias “Maoy,” a resident of Barangay Aramaywan in Narra, Palawan.
He stands about 5’3”, has a muscular build, and has a mole on the right side of his face.
Lopez said initial accounts from fellow detainees suggested the man wanted to visit his sick mother.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the provincial government acknowledged the jailbreak and said it had ordered immediate action in line with the law and public accountability.
The province said they were coordinating with the proper agencies to ensure a quick and orderly response to the incident.
They urged residents to stay calm, remain alert, and cooperate with authorities by reporting any useful information that could help locate and arrest Bunyag.
The provincial government assured the public that it is working to keep everyone safe and maintain public trust.
