The El Nido Municipal Police Station (MPS) has arrested a 25-year old housekeeping boy in El Nido for allegedly stealing P161,000 from a Spanish businessman who was temporarily staying at the pension house where he was employed.

A spot report from the Philippine National Police (PNP) in MIMAROPA identified the suspect as Romel Paigma Dedace, while the victim was named as Ivan Plaza, 48, a resident of Castella 59 in Madrid, Spain, and temporarily staying in El Nido at Jerchris Pension House, Sitio Nasigdan, Barangay Villa Libertad.

The PNP MIMAROPA investigation stated the theft incident happened on May 2 around 11:00 p.m. when Plaza was out of the house to have dinner.

It said the victim reported the incident personally at 2:55 a.m. on May 3. after going back and finding his money was missing from a safety box where he had kept it.

“Investigation revealed that the victim left his room for dinner and left his money inside the safety box. After an hour, he returned to his room and found out that his money amounting to P161,000 was missing,” the spot report said.

Immediately, a team of personnel of the El Nido MPS was dispatched to conduct an investigation and found out that Dedace was the only person who holds the duplicate keys of the pension house.

Upon searching the room of the suspect, the stolen money was allegedly recovered inside his red backpack.

The suspect is now under the custody of the El Nido MPS for proper disposition.
