Hot and humid weather is expected across much of the country on Tuesday due to easterlies, even as no major weather system is affecting the Philippines.
The state weather bureau said the warm and moisture-laden winds coming from the Pacific are driving uncomfortable conditions in many areas, especially from midday to afternoon.
“So ngayon meron din tayong easterlies o yung mainit at malinsangan na hangin na nagagaling sa Dagat Pasipiko na umiiral naman dito sa nalalabing bahagi ng bansa natin,” said weather specialist Chenel Dominguez in a morning briefing aired by the PAGASA.
In Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, fair weather is expected in the morning, but heat and humidity are likely to build up as the day progresses.
These conditions may also trigger localized thunderstorms later in the afternoon or evening.
“Para sa Metro Manila at nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon magiging maaliwalas naman din ang ating panahon pero aasahan din natin yung mga posibilidad ng init at alinsangan lalo na sa tanghali hanggang hapon,” Dominguez said.
Aside from the heat, cloudier skies and rains are forecast in parts of northern and eastern Luzon. Cloudy conditions with rain are expected in Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, while scattered rains are also likely in Quezon and the Bicol Region due to easterlies.
Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon are expected to experience generally fair weather, with a chance of isolated light rains.
In the Visayas and Mindanao, the weather bureau said many areas will also feel hot and humid, with a risk of localized thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Higher chances of scattered rains were noted in Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.
The bureau also raised a gale warning over Batanes, the northern coast of Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte, advising fisherfolk and operators of small sea vessels to avoid going out to sea due to dangerous conditions.
