HOLD YOUR HORSES: What the fire horse brings in 2026

As Chinese New Year’s Eve ushers in a new lunar cycle, communities across Asia and beyond prepare to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse on February 17. The pairing of the Horse, one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, with the Fire element happens only once every 60 years, making 2026 a rare convergence of speed and flame.

The Chinese zodiac follows a cycle rooted in ancient astronomy and philosophy, combining 12 animal signs with five elements, wood, fire, earth, metal and water, under yin and yang principles. The last Fire Horse year was 1966. In Chinese tradition, the Horse represents movement, freedom and stamina. Fire intensifies those qualities, signaling a year that rewards bold action but punishes recklessness.

The horse has long symbolized strength, perseverance and movement in Chinese culture, often appearing in idioms such as “madao chenggong” which translates to “success arrives with the horse.”

Feng shui expert Johnson Chua, in an interview, said the year could be defined by three key themes, “creation, passion, and determination,” and that the Fire Horse’s energy may encourage people to take charge of their plans and ambitions.

“Talagang over fire tayo [sa 2026],” he said, noting that abundant fire energy may also heighten conflict and emotional reactions.

Feng shui experts say every zodiac sign will feel the Fire Horse’s influence differently. Chua noted that the year’s energetic climate may offer fresh starts or shifts in fortune for many signs.

Some suggest signs such as the Tiger, Dog, Goat, Rabbit and Snake may find smoother progress and opportunities in career and personal goals, while others might face more challenges without careful planning.

Here is how this fiery energy could shape the fortunes of each Chinese zodiac sign in 2026:

Rat
The Rat faces a challenging year as its energy directly clashes with the Horse. Signs of friction in career and relationships may arise, but considered planning and patience can turn turbulence into opportunity.

Ox
A steady but testing year awaits the Ox. Persistent effort and resilience can bring moderate gains, and business ventures may prosper if approached with discipline.

Tiger
The Tiger may enjoy strong growth and opportunity, aligned with the Horse’s bold energy. Leadership, networking and promotions are among positive prospects, though patience in love and finances is advised.

Rabbit
The Rabbit’s year carries mixed energy. Financial and career opportunities are present, and relationships can grow, but flexibility and diplomacy will be key to navigating sudden shifts.

Dragon
Dragons may experience dynamic progress, with strong potential for recognition and achievement in work or personal pursuits. Ambition and strategy can pay dividends.

Snake
Snakes are positioned for strategic gains, especially at work. Focused planning and disciplined effort can yield promotions or career momentum.

Horse
Those born in the Year of the Horse are in their own zodiac year, traditionally a time of intense transformation. While visibility and progress may increase, internal pressure and volatility are also likely. Mindful decision-making is essential.

Goat (Sheep)
Goats can benefit from the Horse’s “secret friend” harmony, finding supportive networks and creative breakthroughs. Relationships and collaborations may flourish.

Monkey
Monkeys face a neutral year with opportunities for adaptability. Career and financial prospects arise through quick thinking and flexibility.

Rooster
The Rooster’s year may require careful planning to balance the Fire Horse’s intense energy. Organized steps and attention to detail can stabilize ups and downs.

Dog
Dogs are projected to enjoy strong networking and relationship luck, with steady progress in personal goals and collaborations.

Pig
Pigs can expect steady but cautious gains. Financial planning and health awareness are recommended to avoid pitfalls in a fast-moving year.

Tips to Welcome the Fire Horse
To align with the year’s dynamic rhythm, experts recommend practical approaches:

• Set clear goals before the New Year to channel the Horse’s driven energy.
• Celebrate with traditional rituals like wearing red or gold to symbolize luck and prosperity.
• Practice balance and patience in decisions—rest and reflection can counteract emotional and reactive impulses.

“’Wag tayo magpa-derail. Mamaya, nagpapadala lang tayo sa emotions natin,” he added, urging people to stay focused on long-term goals despite the fiery pace of the year.

As the new Lunar Year unfolds, 2026 promises velocity and volatility in equal measure. The Fire Horse does not wait. It gallops. Those who prepare may find themselves riding its momentum instead of chasing it.
